There is always a way to make money even if you do not have a job. (Some people think that JOB stands for: Just Over Broke)

But some people find this easier than others. Some people expect a work to be handed to them. Others can walk out the door in the morning with nothing and have some work by the end of the day. Others are able to walk out the door with $10 and return with $100 (and I’m not talking about a lucky win at the races). The two main ways to make money are buy working for someone who will pay you, or selling something that someone wants. (And just for the record there are numurous ways to make money illegaly. I don’t support this as a long term solution as the repercussions for failure in this business model are significant.)

So in this category I am putting up business ideas for making money. I will try to analyse them against my business formula which is a list of criteria that I use to analyse whether or not a business idea has potential. Everyone has there own criteria which makes their formula work for them, so my ideas might not necessarily agree with yours.

WOW. I look at this blog and see how many days have passed since my first post.

But I haven’t forgot about it. In fact I was on a train the other day for an hour and I wrote a page of notes and ideas. Very exciting – but equally frustrating. I have a lot of ideas on what I want to get down. Getting those ideas into a logical order is going to be a challenge.

At the same time I have been busy earning money. I work for myself and I currently have a lot of work to do for other people. I think I get paid well for what I do (Yes I do like making money), but as a smarter man than me said one time “You should spend time working ON your business, not IN your busness”. However you need to work in your business to earn you money to survive.

And this is where the subject of today’s post comes into play. Efficient time management is one of the key things I think that needs to be mastered if I am to achieve my goal. I am a bit of a dreamer – I like thinking about ideas. I get LOTS of business ideas and I run them through my business brain to see if they work. The funny thing is that my best ideas always come to me in the morning as I am waking up. I have solved many problems and created many goods things from those first thoughts in the morning…

So the thing for me to focus on is my time management. Mixed in with this is an ability to concerntrate. Currently I find concerntration very difficult. And this affects my efficiency. I know that if I increase my efficiency and concerntration my output will improve. Maybe I am lacking motivation? I seem to be a dog chasing my tail – anyone got any ideas?

I have decided to make One Million Dollars!

Phew – that was a easy decision…can I collect it from the Bank now?

One Million Dollars to me is not about the figure itself (although that will be the benchmark for the purpose of this blog). One Million Dollars means a multitude of other things to me – and I will discuss these later.

At 47 years of age I think it is time to have some real money in my pocket! I need to fun a nest egg, two lots of school fees, and a long, long list of things that I want own, do, and see.

But most of all, I want to create something that has longevity, a source of income that will passively compound itself so that I can fund the things that I want, and not just go about spending all of the principal. This “thing” can be perpetual and something that can be passed onto my children when they grow up.

Business is not new to me and I am an optimist. The last time I was fully employed by someone was about 16 years ago. Yeah ok, don’t ask me if I would be better off financially if I had stayed employed. (The answer by the way is – HELL YES! – Much better off). But the fact is that I wouldn’t have had the experiences I have had, and the learned the lessons I’ve learned… Oh the price of practical hands on education.

A smarter person than me once said that we will all have One Million Dollars during our life. He figure that if you worked for 20 years and made $50,000/year then One Million Dollars will certainly have gone through your hands.

One of my favorite books is “Think and Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill. It’s a classic, and well worth reading for ANYONE who has a grain of ambition in them. One of the main take aways from this book is this:

- 20% of solving any problem concern the question of how to solve it,
- 80% of solving a problem is WHY you want solve it. Or in more simple terms – the more that you want something, the more you focus on something, the more you think about something, the more likely it is that you will get it.

I have been thinking for many years that I wanted to make One Million Dollars. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I can do it. Only thing is, I’m not sure how long it will take.

Let’s see what happens on this journey… The One Million Dollar Race!!
